FOUNDATION SYSTEMS
OVERVIEW

AFS 130/150/200:

The 200 foundation is rugged, assembles in minutes and can support 38,000 ft lbs of base moment in average soil.

The key to our design and patent is our two central plates that give the foundation it’s strength.  4 legs and ballast trays, or bolted brackets, anchor the system.

The AFS 150/200 have been well tested by the US Military and withstood sustained winds of more than 100 mph for more than a year.  The equipment was blown-off and was not to be found, but ARE’s AFS 150 was in “like-new” condition and now is located at the USAF Technology Center.

DESIGN MODIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Mounting platforms for electrical box
  • Adjustable foot plates and keyed ballast blocks for installations for slopes up to 20 degrees
  • Solar PV, Wind Turbine and Battery turn-key kit for remote power stations
  • Embedded steel tube foundation

RAISING SYSTEMS:

  • 5 ton hand operated screw-jack (or high torque drill/driver)
  • Gin Pole

AFS 300/350:

The 300 is constructed much like our AFS 200, but with a smaller footprint and can support poles with base moments of 43,000 ft lbs in a normal 4000 psf soil. This system installs within an hour with a two-person crew and proper tools, with no part of the foundation weighting more than 110 lbs making it possible to install with no equipment in remote sites.

Like our AFS 200, 2 plates that are compressed by bolts that run up and through the legs give the 350 significant strength and ability to support poles up to and beyond 40’. Being less than 8’ square allows this foundation to fit into tight spaces where a small footprint is required.

This system has been deployed by Verizon for events in New York City as well as by Viettel for remote installations in Asia.

DESIGN MODIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Mounting platforms for electrical box
  • Ballast platform and railings to house equipment and security
  • Pre-cast concrete blocks for rapid deployment and decommissioning

RAISING SYSTEMS:

  • 15 ton motorized or hand operated screw-jack
  • Gin Pole

AFS 400/450:

The 400 foundation is 6-sided and has a footprint of 11.5’ in diameter. Typically the 400 can be assembled in 4 hours by a two person crew and supports a base moment of 86,000 foot lbs with an average soil bearing capacity – 4,000 psf.

There are two designs to choose from. The first is our conventional design with a central hub that all truss arms attach to. This is meant for remote locations where lowering the weight of each component is important. Secondly, we offer a version that uses three rings as a central hub so no component weighs more than 110 lbs.

The 400 has been used by Crown Castle, Verizon and ATT in northern California after the fires, for remote mountain deployments and at events such as the Super Bowl in Minneapolis where the foundation and pole system was installed and removed in hours.

BALLAST OPTIONS:

AFS 500/550:

ARE has created the 500 series to work with poles up to 80’. Using a larger footprint with an outer ring for ballast, the 500 series has a footprint of 17’ in diameter and can support 173,000 foot lbs.

Using our central hub to connect all 8 truss arms, the 500 and 550 can ship in a small box or on our US Military Racking System to fit within a C130 plane. The foundation typically installs in 4 hours with a crew of 2-4 people and proper tools.

This system has been used extensively by ARE for telecom and renewable energy for years with great success with multiple units being deployed with the US Air Force in the Arctic Circle.

DESIGN MODIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Mounting platforms for electrical box
  • Solar PV Mounts
  • Side-Walls for Dirt
  • Platforms and Fencing

RAISING SYSTEMS:

  • 25 ton Motorized Screw-Jack
  • Hydraulic Rams and Power Unit
  • Gin Pole

AFS 1100/1300:

ARE’s AFS 1100 foundation is small in size, 15’ in diameter, but can support base moment loads up to 400,000 foot lbs. With a crew of 4 people and proper tools, the foundation can be installed in 6 hours including ballast loading with small skid-steer.

Installation is simple and quick. The central Kingpost is set with pie-like trays laid around it. Truss arms are then assembled and torqued to make the foundation rigid. With ballast loaded, this foundation will weigh 50 tons and extend 5 feet off the ground.

It’s small footprint and ability to support a pole beyond typical COW’s has made our 1100 a popular choice with our customers. By combining it with our hydraulically raised pole, this allows for the foundation and pole to brought to any location with a skid-steer or small telehandler and installed for significantly less than conventional concrete foundations or pilings.

AFS 1500/1700:

ARE’s Patented 1500 Ballasted Foundation System can support heavy poles up to 180’ for most broadband configurations and a moment of 2,500,000 foot lbs.

Similar to other ARE foundations, we use a central hub or kingpost which bolts to trays and truss arms to give the foundation rigidity bringing the diameter to 21 feet. Side-walls that easily drop into keyed posts will support any fill which total 100 tons when installation is complete.

Installation of the foundation and pole can be done in 1-2 days by a 4 person crew once proficient at installing our systems and with the right tools.

Pole designs can include tilt-up models raised with hydraulic rams up to 120’ or conventional monopoles to its maximum capacity.

AFS 1900/2000:

ARE’s largest ballasted foundation is our AFS 2000. Reaching 30’ in diameter and weighing 200 tons once assembled, the 2000 can support a base moment of over 2,900,000 foot lbs or poles with common broadband equipment mounted to over 200’.

Like our AFS 1100 and 1500, the 2000 foundation has a central hub or kingpost that connect all ballast trays and truss arms, creating a rigid structure. Using a telehandler, a crew of 4 people can install the 2000 in 1-2 days. A crane is needed to set poles over 120 feet.

Like all ARE foundations and poles, this system can be installed for permanent installations or disassembled and moved to another location as needed. Currently the AFS 2000 has be used by Crown Castle, Verizon and ATT as well as others for permanent and long-term temporary deployment.
